Our youth group went to camp this past week. These are some of the things they were studying.
Day 1—Point of Inception
On day 1 (Tuesday) we learned about David and Goliath. We often view this story as the little guy taking victory over the big giant but when we take a minute to look a bit deeper than the surface we can see more. David was delivering supplies and food to his older brothers who were in battle and while he was there he heard the philistines defy the one true God of Israel. This made David want to jump into action, but being the small, inexperienced sheep herder, he had to convince king Saul that he could handle the task at hand. When talking to Saul, David didn’t boast about what he had done to keep the sheep safe from bears and lions but instead he gave all the credit to God for delivering him. For God to do this and for David to show such faith, he had to have a personal relationship with God.
We all need that personal relationship with God before God can use us to bring Him glory. He will provide the solid foundation we need to make Godly decisions and aid us in putting on the armor of God daily.
Do you remember your point of inception with your relationship with God?
Day 2—Point of Truth
On Wednesday we took a look at David and Saul and the choices each of them made to learn more about making Godly decisions in our life. Saul made decisions based on mans opinion and decided not to follow God’s way which ultimately led to God taking his hand off of Saul. David was said to be a man after God’s own heart. We see Davids devotion to listening to God and in 1 Samuel 24:1-15 we see that David made the decision to not kill Saul despite his men saying that God must have delivered Saul into David’s hands to kill. Even after cutting off a pice of Saul’s robe, David felt convicted and decided that he shouldn’t harm the one God had anointed as king.
So often we are placed in situations where we have to make decisions. Do we take the easy way out which may not always follow God’s ways or do we choose to not take matters into our own hands and wait on the Lord?
There is only one way to follow God and as Christians we need to as ourselves if we are living to bring God glory and if we are living for God’s mission.
Day 3—Point of Reconciliation
On Thursday we learned about the need for repentance of our sin and reconciliation with God thru the study of David and his sin with Bathsheba. Nathan went to David and provided an illustration to help David recognize his sin against God and David immediately recognized what he had done was the wrong decision.
We were challenged to look into our lives and see if there was any sin in our lives that we needed to repent of in order to restore our relationship with God.
Can’t wait to hear from them this coming Sunday about all that happened this week. Come join us Sunday morning, July 18th, at 11 am to see how God is moving in the lives our young people!
